Carlos Alcaraz developed a fondness for drop shots but executing them properly is really tough against Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
The Spaniard executed it at a very high level during his title run at Madrid last year opting for it in really important rallies. Alcaraz was able to defeat Nadal and Djokovic back to back which is not something many were able to do and a large part of that was the drop shot.
I'm trying to see when the opponent is really far off the baseline to drop shots and if they reach the ball, then a lob or passing shot is easy for me.
Despite meticulous preparation, Alcaraz still noted the difficulty of winning the point against Djokovic and Nadal despite of that. Both of them read the game so well that they kind of know when it's coming which Alcaraz confirmed.
Rafa, I mean it's tough to win a drop shot against him or against Djokovic as well, it's tough. I think they see when I'm going to hit a drop shot. They see before I hit it. And ofcourse they run before, you know, They always reach the ball. They are very good at that. They hit another drop shot, so they win the point.
