Carlos Alcaraz is in the Hamburg Open quarterfinal after beating Filip Krajinovic 7-6(5) 6-3.

The Spaniard played a much better match in his 2nd try at Hamburg surviving a very spirited effort from Krajinovic. The Serbian is a very talented player but he lost this match where he usually loses matches and that's in the head. He was better than Alcaraz for the better part of the opening set playing really well however he faltered towards the end.

At 5-4, Krajinovic served for the first set but it was clear that he was nervous. Being down 15-40 he battled back to deuce and even created two set points but was unable to convert either. Alcaraz was able to break back and force a tiebreak where he outplayed Krajinovic to win 7-4.

It was a huge wasted chance by Krajinovic as he was up 4-2 in that tiebreak before losing 5 points in a row. The 2nd set featured worse play from Krajinovic initially which gave Alcaraz plenty of chances to take a double break lead 4-1. Alcaraz dropped his serve after some unserious play in the next game but broke Krajinovic once more for the 5-2 lead. He finished it off with 6-3.
