The current Spanish number one Paula Badosa proclaimed Novak Djokovic the best right now because 'numbers are numbers'.
Novak Djokovic recently became the first male player to win 23 Grand Slams ever and many took it as a crowning moment for the Serbian. The discussion about who the best player of all time is remains an open one for many people but there are more than a few that are ready to proclaim Djokovic the best player in history after this.
He personally dismissed it after winning the French Open not wanting to actively discuss it but there are plenty of others who are ready to anoint him. Nadal congratulated him on the triumph when it happened as did Federer a few days later. The former legendary player also refused to proclaim Djokovic as GOAT wanting to see what Nadal does when he comes back.
The current Spanish number one on the WTA Tour, Paula Badosa has no problems doing it believing that the Serbian is the best because numbers don't lie. He certainly has some amazing stats and records to his name but that's not exclusive to him only. Her boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas, might not agree with her as he sees Federer as the one. Speaking to El Larguero, Badosa said:
Mentally he is a beast. Competing and being so superior in each competition seems crazy to me. And in tennis he is the most complete. And physically he takes care of himself so much... It's brutal. Right now you can't say anything other than he's the best. He has shown it. The numbers are the numbers.
Badosa and Djokovic have a rather solid relationship as the Spanish player is among the few players that backed the PTPA and has been very active with the organisation. She also attended their most recent meeting in Paris where both co-founders (Djokovic and Pospisil) were present.
