Federer Refuses To Proclaim Djokovic GOAT Before Nadal Retires

Roger Federer made a rare appearance on a tennis court these days for his day at the Halle Open where he was honoured for his contributions to tennis.

Federer has a long history at Halle, quite literally, as he played at the event for a very long time. It's been a staple of his preparation for Wimbledon as he almost never skipped it. Federer won the event 10 times in his career which is why the event unrolled the red carpet for him on Wednesday for his special day.

The Swiss received a standing ovation as it's befitting of a legendary player that impacted the sport as much as he did. In Halle, Federer naturally talked to the media and one of the burning questions was what his thoughts on the GOAT Race are.

As expected, Federer completely omitted his name from the race but refused to proclaim Novak Djokovic the greatest of all time outright wanting to see what Rafael Nadal will do on his return. He didn't want to say because in his mind it's kind of tough to compare achievements like that.

What is better? Winning Wimbledon at 17 like Becker or Paris at 36 like Novak? I don't know. What he has achieved is absolutely gigantic. It could be sufficient. But I think as long as Rafa is still playing, too, you can't answer that definitively yet.

It's a question that will always be somewhat hard to answer as it's a subjective matter. Questions like that or what the best colour or best ice cream flavour ask are hard to answer. Some prefer Federer, and some say it's Djokovic but unless the Serbian builds a very strong case it's likely going to remain debated.

Winning a 24th at Wimbledon would do wonders for Djokovic in the pursuit as would adding a few more. If he finishes with 3 or four more Grand Slam trophies then it's going to be very hard to argue against him.
