For a while, Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomljanovic were the darlings of the tennis community but their relationship ultimately ended.
Tennis couples have been part of the sport for as long as it's been going on. From Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert to Andre Agassi and Steffi Graff to more recently Roger Federer and Mirka Vavrinec, we've seen many great couples in the sport.
Some like the one between Agassi and Graff work out while some like Gael Monfils and Dominika Cibulkova don't. Still, the Frenchman was able to find happiness in another tennis couple as he's happily married to his wife Elina Svitolina.
Besides 'Gems' the tennis community was recently heavily invested in another couple - Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomljanovic. Unfortunately, that relationship ended with Tomljanovic confirming the break up in the first episode of Break Point.
This year has not been great. I wasn't my best self. You could see it from my on-court behavior. I've also split up with Matteo. Every relationship, it has good times and bad times. I could just feel that things were not right.
The Australian further admitted that things simply weren't meant to be. She was hoping for something that would last a lifetime but ultimately it didn't work out. Berrettini's reasoning was simply down to neither being happy in the relationship anymore.
You look for something that will last a lifetime and it wasn't meant to be. Yeah, it's just life that still happens even though you're a professional athlete.
Things didn't go that well for either since then as Tomljanovic dealt with injuries as did Berrettini. The Italian moved on with Italian presenter Melissa Satta and it's been a far more high-profile relationship with fans attacking Satta on social media blaming her for Berrettini's slump. Tennis moved on as well as they have a new relationship (Tsitsidosa) to be invested in.
