Andy Murray 'Genuinely Believes' Great Britain Can Finally Win Davis Cup After 8 Years

Andy Murray fully believes that Great Britain can win the Davis Cup with the team they have at their disposal right now.

The team is a very strong one indeed, with Daniel Evans, Cameron Norrie, Andy Murray, Jack Draper, and Neal Skupski. All of them are very capable tennis players, and they are hosting their group in Manchester, so fan support shouldn't really be lacking.

The group itself is a rather solid one as well, with Australia, France, and Switzerland, and they are expected to advance to the knockout stages of the Finals. If they do end up there, then Murray thinks they'll have a decent shot with four really solid singles players and one of the best doubles players in the world.

Murray himself wasn't sure if he was going to play in the Davis Cup as his US Open run ended in a great disappointment, but he responded to the call because he loves to play for the country and always did in the past.

At that moment, straight as I came off the court, I wasn’t in a great place after losing in a slam. I said (to captain Leon Smith), if I’m not needed, I completely get that. But, for whatever reason, he asked me to come and I said I would come.

I’ve always loved playing Davis Cup and any event where you’re competing for your country. We have a great group of guys, I love being part of this team, we’ve got great staff as well. Everyone gets on extremely well.

The country hosted their group last year as well but were ousted at this stage with a couple of players disappointing. They will try to avoid that this time, and Murray thinks they have a good chance as all of them seem very motivated.

I do genuinely believe the team can win the event. That’s huge motivation to be a part of it. I want to help the team in any way I can, whether that’s on the court or off. We’ll see what happens.
