Andy Murray admitted that he was emotional in his potentially lost Davis Cup match in front of the home crowd in Glasgow.
After playing in two doubles matches at the event, Murray was also selected for a singles match in a tie against Kazakhstan after Group D of the 2022 Davis Cup was already decided.
The 35-year-old Brit played against Dmitriy Popko and showed that he still knows how to win. After an hour and 29 minutes, Murray won the match 6-4, 6-3, and recorded his only win in Group D after losing two doubles matches.
After the match, the former ATP World No. 1 player spoke about the moment when he realized that he might have played his last Davis Cup match in front of his home crowd.
"I only thought about it at about 5-2 in the second set. I wasn’t thinking about it before the weekend, during any of the doubles matches or anything. I kind of realized that as I was playing the match."
"I lost my focus a bit and felt a little bit emotional about that. But, yeah, I wasn’t thinking about that throughout the rest of the week I guess probably because there was always another match coming as well."
Murray also spoke about the possibility of being selected in the future as Great Britain's team can grow in power with the likes of Jack Draper.
"It’s not going to be easy with the players that we have. Someone like Jack Draper is improving all the time. He’ll be involved in the team for many years."
Moreover, he reflected on his doubles appearances in Glasgow, which weren't that bad, but the results speak against the Brit.
"Then I don’t know which way the captain will go with the doubles after the results here, as well. I don’t know what the future holds in that respect but if I’m selected I’ll definitely, definitely be involved."
