Coco Gauff is no longer the youngest player in the Top 100 of the WTA Rankings after 17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova won the 2022 Chennai Open.
Czech tennis has a really bright future, especially because of the young talents that it has been able to produce in recent years. One of those players also stopped Gauff's long-time domination.
Since October 13th, 2019, Gauff has always been a part of the Top 100 of the WTA Rankings. She has also been the youngest player in it. But that changed when two Lindas from the Czech Republic came.
Those two players are Linda Noskova and Linda Fruhvirtova. 17-year-old Noskova won two ITF events this year and also played in two Grand Slam main draws.
On August 22nd, 2022, she reached her career-high 87th spot in the WTA Rankings, taking away the crown of the youngest player in the Top 100 from Coco Gauff.
However, she soon dropped out of this elite company, and therefore, the young American became the youngest player in the Top 100 once again.
However, Noskova's younger compatriot, Fruhvirtova, enjoyed a stunning week at the 2022 Chennai Open, which ended with her maiden WTA title.
The Czech teenager beat Magda Linette in the final match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, completing a dream week. It was that dream that catapulted Fruhvirtova all the way up to the Top 100 of the rankings.
While she's far away from matching Gauff's first WTA title at 15 years old, the young Czech jumped to the 74th position in the WTA Rankings, making her the youngest player in the Top 100.
She improved by 56 places, and with 761 points, the Czech player isn't far away from eyeing a Top 50 breakthrough.
Gauff and Fruhvirtova aren't the only teenagers in the Top 100 either. Qinwen Zheng is ranked 36th, Emma Raducanu is 77th, and Clara Tauson is 93rd. All of these players are 19 years old.
