17-years-old Linda Fruhvirtova wins her first WTA title at 2022 Chennai Open

Linda Fruhvirtova is one of the most-talented players on the WTA Tour and she confirmed that at the 2022 Chennai Open with her maiden WTA triumph.

They 17-years-old Czech player will become the highest-ranked player under 18 and the third highest-ranked teenager after Coco Gauff and Qinwen Zheng. Ahead of her final at the 2022 Chennai Open, Linda Fruhvirtova was not afraid to say that she's used to facing a lot of expectations, when she stated:

“Since I was really young, we always had a lot of attention, even if it was the national U-10 tournament. I’m kind of used to people watching how I am going to do." said the 17-year old ahead of her final match.

In the final, she took on the third-seeded Magda Linette from Poland who has much more experience with WTA finals than the youngster. And that showed in the first set when the Pole had all of the break points. After failing the first five times, Linette eventually gained the advantage on the sixth try and won the first set 6-4.

However, Fruhvirtova was there to win her first WTA title and become one of the youngest players to do so. In the second set, she didn't allow her opponent to have any break chances and after using one of her opportunities, the Czech levelled the score after winning second set 6-3.

It already seemed that the third set will have the same scenario as the first one. Linette was the only player to have break points, three of them, and used on to get a 4-1 lead and she was up 40-30 on her opponent's serve.

Yet, Fruhvirtova won 19 out of the last 25 rallies to beat Linette 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and win her first WTA title at the 2022 Chennai Open.
