At the 2023 Indian Wells, Carlos Alcaraz achieved another rare feat, this time putting himself 2nd in the historic tables.
By beating Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands, the 19-year-old recorded his 100th ATP win, and he needed only 132 matches to do it. The best ever to do it? John McEnroe with 131 matches and so Alcaraz came very close to making history.
But he still beat some of the greatest players in the game. Andre Agassi needed 135 matches, Rafael Nadal had to play 137 matches, while Novak Djokovic required 143 matches to record 100 wins and Roger Federer had to play 169 matches.
Once again, the young Spaniard proved that he's the future of the sport and may be discussed as one of the greatest players in the future. Alcaraz is still only 19 years old and there are many achievements and accomplishments that he will collect throughout his career. Speaking about recording 100 wins, he said:
"I'm really proud to get my 100th win on the ATP Tour and I hope it's the first 100 of many. Honestly, I searched that stat today, [but] I didn't know. I thought it was in the next round."
Up next, the young Spaniard will be facing another youngster, Jack Draper. The Brit defeated former world no. 1 Andy Murray and he will be looking to beat another player that reached the top of the rankings in the fourth round. Speaking about their meeting, Alcaraz said:
"I'm ready. I love playing those kind of matches. Jack's playing really well. I played against him just once in Basel, not a long time ago. It was really tough. I know that I have to put my best level, I have to show my 100 per cent to [beat] a great opponent like Jack. I think it's going to be a really beautiful match to watch for the crowd and obviously I'm going to enjoy the match."
