The 2022 US Open wanted to help Ukraine through an Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund and they were successful in doing so by raising $2 million.
It all started with a Tennis Plays for Peace exhibition event where likes of Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff competed in exhibition matches in Louis Armstrong Stadium. The event raised more than $1 million and already back then, the tournament stated that the goal is to raise $2 million.
Two weeks later, the 2022 US Open announced that their efforts were successful and $2 million was collected throughout the event to help Ukraine. The Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund on GlobalGiving received every penny contributed and distributes it to those those in need in the affected areas of Ukraine and the areas nearby where Ukrainian refugees have fled.
