Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev lost positions in the newest edition of the ATP Rankings after the 2022 US Open.
On the WTA Tour, some players experienced very significant drops in the rankings after the 2022 US Open. Last year's champion, Emma Raducanu, lost 72 positions, while last year's finalist, Leylah Fernandez, dropped by 26 spots.
On the ATP Tour, the biggest drops weren't so significant when it comes to the positions lost, but some players still lost out compared to their previous position.
Daniil Medvedev was the World No. 1 player ahead of the last Grand Slam tournament of the season. Like Raducanu, the Russian player couldn't defend the title in New York, which is why he dropped to the fourth spot.
Two Top 10 players who also dropped down didn't even play at the 2022 US Open. Alexander Zverev has been dealing with an injury since he was forced to retire from his semi-final match at the Roland Garros earlier this year.
The German player was the World No. 2 ahead of the New York Slam, and he also dropped down by three positions. Novak Djokovic, on the other hand, wasn't allowed to enter the United States, which is why he missed the US Open.
The Serbian player, however, dropped only by one spot. He's now ranked seventh, even though the eighth Cameron Norrie is only 20 points behind him.
In terms of positions lost, Botic van de Zandschulp, Gael Monfils, and Reilly Opelka lost the most as they dropped 13, eight, and 10 positions, respectively.
On the other hand, Karen Khachanov, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and Frances Tiafoe made the biggest jumps up. Khachanov improved by 13 positions, Tiafoe by seven, and Davidovich Fokina moved up by 11 places.k
