16-year-old tennis phenom Mirra Andreeva will play in the main draw of the 2023 Wimbledon after beating Tamara Korpatsch in three sets.

The 16-year-old Russian phenom proved herself earlier this year by putting together some impressive showings at the Madrid Open. From the win over Leylah Fernandez to beating a Top 20-ranked Beatriz Haddad Maia, Andreeva proved the rising star of the WTA Tour.

She then followed that up with some Roland Garros heroics losing to another tennis phenom Coco Gauff after a few wins. After successfully overcoming visa troubles, Andreeva stepped onto the green courts of Wimbledon to play her first qualifying match.

It proved a rather good showing as she won it comfortably. She followed that up with another great showing and today completed the trifecta by beating Korpatsch in three sets to secure a spot in the main draw of Wimbledon.

It was another confident showing from Andreeva who didn't get rattled even if things didn't go that in the opening set. She took a 3-1 lead but played a few shaky games unable to create much separation after that. We saw both players struggle on their serve as both were breaking each other while the score remained tied.

Eventually, the Russian did get the opening set 7-5 despite 15 unforced errors. She didn't play that well initially but remained confident in her ability to win the match and that continued in the second set as well. Another early break and nearly a double break demonstrated that she was generally unbothered by Korpatsch.

That was until 5-4 when she stepped out to serve out the match. She got broken by Korpatsch who ultimately won the second set. The final set saw Andreeva step up again and win the match though she could have avoided that if she just closed it out in the second set. Overall still a good win for the Russian who is will certainly be the youngest player in both draws. The final score was 7-5 5-7 6-2.
