Mirra Andreeva impressed many with her play at this year's Roland Garros narrowly missing out on making the second week at her first slam.
There have been young and up-and-coming players making the second week in their first grand slam. Ben Shelton did it earlier this year at the Australian Open but Mirra Andreeva didn't this time around. She ran into Coco Gauff who ultimately proved too much to handle.
It was a good match, one where she was able to win the first set but her level faltered as the match went on. A very good learning experience for the youngster who did something questionable during the match but avoided disqualification. Besides that match, the week in Paris was a great one and after the match, Andreeva confirmed that she'll take away many things from the match.
Yes, I can take a lot of positive things from here. Passed quallies. I did win a couple of great matches. Yes, for sure there is a lot of positive things to take. But, yes, and a lot of things also to take from this match. But, well, we will just continue to work. I will realize what I did wrong, and I will correct it. So I hope everything is gonna be okay after.
She was also asked about her upcoming plans with another grand slam (Wimbledon) coming up in a few weeks. Andreeva mentioned Wimbledon but explained that she still hasn't gotten her visa yet so her participation isn't confirmed as of now.
Now I'm limited still in tournaments, so my next tournament has to be Wimbledon. But I don't get my visa yet, so we will see if I can participate in Wimbledon or no. But if not, we will just choose the tournaments and I will just maybe play some ITFs. I don't know yet.
She has the ranking for it as she will enter the top 100 thanks to this run here. Visa issues haven't affected Andreeva only as Aryna Sabalenka confirmed a few weeks ago that she hasn't gotten her visa either. She didn't speak on the matter since then it's widely expected of her to be there.
