Swiatek Would Like To Have WTA Finals In Europe But Has 'No Impact' On Decision

Iga Swiatek was pretty open with the media when asked about Saudi Arabia possibly hosting the WTA Finals, admitting that she had no impact on that.

There has been a lot of talk about the WTA Finals potentially being held in Saudi Arabia. Some have even suggested it's a done deal, especially after the Public Investment Fund logo appeared around the Indian Wells as a result of collaboration with the ATP.

Whether fans like it or not, the country is tying itself to tennis quite aggressively, so the move may happen sooner or later. Some players are pretty against it, especially former legends like John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, and Chris Evert.

Fans should expect a lot of announcements regarding Saudi Arabia's investment in tennis in the coming months, and one of those might be related to the WTA Finals. When asked about it by the media in Indian Wells, Swiatek was honest about not knowing anything.

"I was always in the group of players that said it would be nice to have the WTA Finals in Europe, but we are still waiting for the decision, you know. We, as players, don’t really have much of an impact on where the finals will be held."

It shouldn't come as a huge surprise to anybody because players were kept in the dark for much of last year as well. We didn't know where the Finals would be held for much of the season, so this isn't anything unusual.

Regarding Saudi Arabia's involvement, Swiatek told the media to ask the WTA instead simply. Players have no impact on that, but if she could choose, she would choose the Finals in Europe.

"It is just better for you guys to just direct these questions the WTA if you get a chance. It is them who have all the and information and are up to date."

Still, what ultimately ends up being the final product remains to be seen. The hope is that the current structure of tennis remains familiar, but there were rumors that also that may change.
