'WTA Decisions Caused Frustration & Tension': Swiatek On WTA Finals Fiasco

This year's WTA Finals was a proper fiasco because the whole process wasn't really transparent, nor was it very smart, and Iga Swiatek talked about it once again.

Hosting a tennis event in Cancun seems like a decent idea on paper, but there are some things you need to consider before pulling the trigger. For one, the city is located on the eastern coast of Mexico, towards a part of the world that experiences rather robust weather at that time of the year.

It's a yearly occurrence, and it could have been predicted that the weather would be a challenge, something that eventually happened. It proved more than that with wind and plenty of rain, and nobody was really happy.

Iga Swiatek was one of the players who expressed her frustration, even though she wanted to remain professional during the tournament. In a recent interview, Swiatek talked about the event, admitting that most players were not happy with the way things went down.

The tournament in Cancun showed that I am able to concentrate and play good tennis in any conditions, even when I feel that I cannot fully demonstrate what I have trained. Another thing is that we competed in conditions that were not very comfortable.

The WTA decisions caused us frustration and tension, but I couldn't think about them during the matches, so I didn't talk much about them during the tournament.

They openly talked about it during the event, so it's clear that the displeasure was pretty evident. Swiatek herself has been a longtime proponent of actually consulting players before making such a decision.

According to some reports, players were consulted and signed off on the event being held in Cancun. The most important thing is that the WTA Finals don't suffer the same fate as this year.

Even last year's event wasn't that great due to very low attendance which was, again, quite predictable. The WTA just needs to do a better job.
