Elina Svitolina is back on the WTA Tour, competing at the 2023 Citi Open in Washington, but her daughter is not with her in the US capital.

Svitolina returned to tennis in Washington with an impressive win over Victoria Azarenka, just like at Wimbledon not too long ago. She's in Washington with her husband, Gael Monfils, who is also competing at the event and actually played the match after Svitolina's. He started with a win as well.

A noted absence in Washington is their daughter Skai who is back home as the duo opted to prioritize her health. The rigorous travel schedule and Monfils and Svitolina's commitments while on Tour would have been too much for the baby.

She's at home. We want her to stay home for the health reasons. Health is No. 1 priority for us, and it's really changing. We know how tired it can be to travel that much. Tennis requires a lot of traveling, flying, and all this stress.

You know, you're not sleeping in your bed, you are constantly, you know, doing something and different places So we don't want to stress her right now at the beginning.

While Svitolina had her amazing Wimbledon run, Monfils took care of his daughter back home. Now with both of them competing, it's a bit tough because they're both missing her badly. Facetiming is a great option, but it's not the real thing, but it's the best option they have.

For sure it's extremely tough for us. We were Face Timing this morning with her and she was super happy. Then she was looking behind the phone, you know, where we are It's really sad for us, but, you know, we have to put the priority on her health.
