'Scrolling Through TikToks': Raducanu On Her 'Ideal Day Off'

'Scrolling Through TikToks': Raducanu On Her 'Ideal Day Off'

by Zachary Wimer

Emma Raducanu spoke about how she spends her free time recently, and it's similar to how many people like to spend their time.

A tennis player's day is very busy, and they rarely get a day off. They can't because the sport never stops, and if they stop, they'll get overrun by those who don't stop.

Still, also athletes are human, and they are imperfect, so they need to take days off. Tennis players obviously have them like anybody else, and generally, it has very little to do with tennis.

For Raducanu, the day off is simple. There is nothing too extravagant in terms of activities. She revealed what her ideal day off would look like in an interview with Harper's Bazaar recently, and it includes TikTok.

"My ideal day off would be waking up at 8am, reading in bed, scrolling through Reels or TikToks, then showering and catching up with a friend over some window-shopping or a walk – a day off is the only time I have to do these things. Ideally, I would have a big, late lunch and be home by 5pm to get ready for the week ahead, and have something light for dinner."

TikTok is hugely popular among Raducanu's generation as Coco Gauff once openly admitted to spending a lot of time on it. They're not the only players, nor is it exclusively for younger generations, but it's also interesting to note.

"I’d tell my younger self that it’s OK to say ‘no’ and prioritise what feels best for myself, especially in the hours ‘off’. Regardless of others’ perceptions, deep down we know when we are doing something truly for ourselves or rather because we feel we ought to."

When it comes to tennis, Raducanu hasn't been performing that well lately. She'll try to turn things around at the Indian Wells Open next month.
