Sofia Kenin started off her Wimbledon qualifying campaign with a solid win getting closer to making the main draw.

The American has had a somewhat up-and-down season which is mostly down to her not yet finding her confidence. She had some good performances but also some horrific ones which is typical of players struggling with confidence.

It was only recently that Kenin would consider herself healthy enough to play regularly after dealing with injury horror for months. She's playing this year so that's a start and with time she'll probably find her best tennis again. It remains to be seen whether that will be good enough to win Grand Slams in the future but fans are hopeful.

To play at Wimbledon though, Kenin needs to through the qualifiers. Her first match was against a veteran, a fellow American who certainly gave Kenin a fight. A close fight that the younger American managed to win in two sets.

It wasn't particularly a clean match from Kenin as she had far more errors than winners but her opponent wasn't that much better. Kenin was the more aggressive player in rallies improving her precision in the second set and Falconi simply couldn't keep up. She tried but the ball sailed wide too many times.

This wasn't Kenin's first match on grass this year. She took part in a WTA event the week before in Italy winning a few matches which proved useful in this one. Her first match on grass came in Nottingham the week before the Italian experience but she didn't win that one.

The final score was 6-3 6-2 for the American who will play either Abduraimova or Uchijima in the next round. Both are playable and she will be favoured to go through in the hopes of making her Wimbledon return this year. She missed the event last year but played in the second round in 2021.
