Sofia Kenin said she is proud of finding some form on the biggest stage at Wimbledon after she advanced to the third round.

Kenin entered the 2023 Wimbledon as a qualifier and had to play three matches before the main draw began. But, the American player has continued her good form into the Wimbledon main draw by defeating some tough opponents in Coco Gauff and Wang Xinyu for back-to-back Grand Slam wins for the first time since 2021.

Next up for Kenin is another tough test against Elina Svitolina in the third round. However, a run this far at Wimbledon marks the 24-year-old's best-ever performance at the Grand Slam in a long time and the American player said in her press conference that the progression on the biggest stage has upset some of her doubters.

"Yeah, obviously I'm super excited. Just trying to prove some people wrong. Just super proud of myself with the way I really fought, you know, through to get here and keeping the momentum going."

"Yeah, I'm just putting in the hard work and it's paying off."

Gradually progressing at Wimbledon will come as a big relief for Kenin, who won the Australian Open in 2020. The American player has struggled with injury throughout the campaign and found form difficult to come by in the big events this season, with early exits at the Roland Garros, the Australian Open and the Madrid Open.

But, Kenin now feels she has rediscovered some confidence after a good run of matches and results.

"I mean, honestly, I just feel like I had to click. Like I said, I started off the year pretty good. Then, yeah, I mean, I feel like I needed more matches. And, you know, I knew if I put in the work and do the right things, eventually it's going to click, and I'm super happy it's clicking here. So yeah, it's just, you know, one thing at a time and everything."
