Iga Swiatek is happy that the Dubai Championships has switched balls to those used at the Australian Open as opposed to the US balls used in previous years.
Swiatek made the short flight from Doha to Dubai after winning the trophy at the Qatar Open on Saturday. She was asked how it compares and admitted that the weather seemed oddly similar this time around which wasn't the case last year.
Usually it's much drier. I remember last year the courts were very fast. Truth to be told, I didn't play any practice yet, so I don't know. I think looking at weather conditions, the weather is more similar to Doha this year. We'll see. I don't know about the courts.- Swiatek on Dubai compared to Doha
One thing that she's glad about is the ball change because now they're the same ones used at the Australian Open. Having to go back and forth between balls was something she considered stupid.
I'm pretty happy that this year finally we have the same balls, Australian Open Dunlop, because every year we had to adjust and change the ball every week, which was pretty stupid for me. Right now it makes sense.- Swiatek on the balls change
Last year's stay in Dubai was short as she was beaten by Jelena Ostapenko pretty early in the event.
