Andy Muray has spoken about his positive preparations ahead of the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

Murray will play at the Dubai Championships on a wildcard entry and the Brit joins a talented field at the competition, with eight of the world's top 20 taking part, including world number one Novak Djokovic.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray has been practising at the Dubai Tennis Stadium leading up to the 2023 tournament and the former world number one explained that he has been pleased with his progress before the competition starts on Monday, February 27.

“Practice has been brilliant, The court was pretty much brand-new when we started, so I got some really good sessions in. The team here have been unbelievably helpful. It’s been great preparation for these next two weeks – I’ve loved it."
Murray said to the National

Murray has fond memories of the Dubai Championships in previous years as the Brit played his first competition in Dubai in 2008 and reached the quarter-finals. Then, nearly a decade later in 2017, Murray went on to win the tournament after beating Fernando Verdasco in the final.

Ahead of his next appearance, Murray appeared in a relaxed mood and revealed he has been making use of the facilities in Dubai.

"Everything has been super easy and smooth. The facilities are fantastic, great gyms – they’ve even got a gym just for the players to use now, which is really nice."

Since his first appearance at the Dubai Championships, Murray has seen big changes in the venue, which he believes has been positive for top-level tennis players.

“The tournament has changed a lot since the first time I was here. I mean, the whole city has changed, but the tournament has evolved. With the hotel here on site now, it is brilliant for the players; it’s so easy and convenient – you spend no time in cars, or traffic, or anything. You’re right here."
