'Disappointment': Vondrousova Slams WTA For Poor Finals Organization

Marketa Vondrousova added her name to the list of players disappointed by the 2023 WTA Finals in Cancun and the way the event is staged.

Vondrousova probably grew up with talk of the WTA Finals being this amazing experience for all involved, and yet her first experience with the event hasn't gone so well so far.

Like many other players, Vondrousova was disappointed to see the end result. She worked hard all year long to be able to play at this event, and then it's one of the worst organized tournaments in the entire calendar.

For an event that's supposed to be the celebration of the best players in the world, that's just unacceptable.

My first WTA finals is not at all what I imagined. We work hard all year to get to the finals & in the end it's just a disappointment. The stadium is not at all ready for the matches & to me it feels like the people from WTA are absolutely not interested in how we, who are supposed to play on that court, feel.

We do not feel that anyone listens to us or are interested in our opinion. It’s very sad. On the another note, I am really grateful to all the people here in Mexico for being so nice & very helpful with everything.

It's just the same sentiment Aryna Sabalenka had after her match. She called the court dangerous with bad bounces all around, and that's just a terrible look for the WTA. The fact that the court wasn't even completed by the time the players arrived tells you all you need to know.

Not all players have criticized the event as Iga Swiatek was a bit more mellow in her approach, but you wouldn't call her content with the situation. It's just another terrible look for the WTA after last year's fiasco.
