The 18-years-old American played already her fourth season on the WTA Tour and so far, this one was the most successful in her career.
Coco Gauff showed her qualities to the tennis world already back in 2019 as a 15-years-old surprise at Wimbledon. Back then, she managed to beat Venus Williams and tennis fans started to believe that she may be the next great American.
A few seasons passed and Gauff gathered enough experience from almost every tournament on the WTA Tour that she fully used in 2022. Moreover, she played a lot of doubles throughout her career and thanks to playing a few Grand Slam finals in doubles, it wasn’t a much different feeling for her when she reached her maiden Grand Slam singles final at this year’s Roland Garros.
Thanks to her solid performances, the teenager qualified for the 2022 WTA Finals, but lost all six matches she played there. Gauff competed in three singles and three doubles matches and she was already suggested to cut back on doubles in order to reach more success in singles after the disappointing end.
However, numbers clearly show that Gauff had a very successful season despite competing in singles and doubles. She climbed to world no. 1 spot in the WTA Rankings in doubles and she was also 4th in singles. She also kept a winning record of 38 - 23 and there is certainly a lot more for her to explore in 2023.
After playing her first Grand Slam singles final, the 18-years-old American will be certainly targeting another major success next year and attack of the no. 2 spot in the WTA Rankings also wouldn’t be surprising.
Overall, Gauff can be certainly satisfied with how she played in 2022 and what she achieved. Ending which she didn’t wish for may be a great motivation for her during the off-season and in January, we can see even stronger Coco Gauff.
