Coco Gauff revealed what the most important thing for her is after a hectic 2022 season that the 18-year-old can be proud of.

Gauff's sudden breakthrough at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships as a 15-year-old means she attracts much media attention, but the two-time WTA title winner handles that constant scrutiny incredibly for someone still so young.

The American made more progress in 2022. Her most notable moment in singles was reaching the French Open final, where she lost to Iga Swiatek, who won an incredible 35th consecutive match to beat Gauff.

Gauff managed enough consistency throughout the rest of the season to become the youngest player to qualify for the WTA Finals since Maria Sharapova in 2004. However, she lost all her matches at the event held in Fort Worth, Texas.

2022 also saw Gauff achieve much success in doubles. She and Jessica Pegula finished as runner-up to home favorites Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic at the French Open and won the Canadian Open together.

Gauff became the No. 1 doubles player after securing the Canadian Open title. The teenager admitted to not being aware of separate rankings existing for doubles as a child but was delighted with the achievement.

She qualified for the doubles at the WTA Finals with Pegula but also lost all three doubles matches, making it six defeats out of six at the event overall. Gauff ended her 2022 season at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, where Team USA could not get out of the group stage.

The young star posted about her season on Instagram. Gauff wrote that the most important thing is to keep trying through the good and bad times and that she would not forget the 2022 season.

"We live, we learn, but mostly importantly we keep trying. 2022 season is officially over and definitely one I’ll never forget. Thank you God for strengthening me at my lowest and highest points this season."
