Coco Gauff went winless at last year's WTA Finals, but she hopes to avoid that this year, but it won't be easy against Ons Jabeur.
Coco Gauff played only one event since her amazing US Open triumph, which was a solid outing. She didn't play as well as in New York, but she still won a couple of matches, which was vital for her.
There is something called the post-grand Slam struggle, and she passed the test. The real test will come at the WTA Finals because she bombed the event last year, losing all of her matches.
Things should be different this year, but Ons Jabeur certainly won't let breeze past her. This will be a battle, so let's see who will emerge victorious.
Head-to-head:
They played five matches so far, with Jabeur winning three of those. The most recent one came last year in Berlin on grass, and Jabeur won that one, too. The American is a far different player compared to last year, though, and it's important to note that Gauff won their lone hard-court match.
Considering she's 38-7 on that surface this year, that's good to know.
Prediction:
The court isn't really important for this matchup it's the style of both players. No player oscillates between great and bad as much as Jabeur does and when she's facing a really consistent player like Gauff, then it can be a problem.
While Gauff tends to go up and down as well, she's pretty feisty in rallies, never giving a point away easily, which is the point. She'll frustrate Jabeur in many different ways, and there are also physical issues with the Tunisian.
She hasn't played much lately due to some issues, so her status for the event is in question. She might be good or might struggle, but either way, I see Gauff winning this one.
Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in two sets.
