Jessica Pegula joined a list of players that withdrew from the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, although the list includes only two players at the moment.
World no. 1, Iga Swiatek became the first player to withdraw from the event, especially because of its scheduling. The 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals are played immediately after the WTA Finals and therefore, some players won't have enough time to travel from Fort Worth in Texas to Glasgow in Scotland and be fit for a match.
Speaking about Swiatek's decision to withdraw, the American no. 1 said: "It’s great that she spoke on that subject. Just to let everyone know that it’s affecting her, affecting players. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for her deciding not to represent Poland. That means it needs to change - for someone like that to stand up," Pegula said.
After losing all six matches she played at the 2022 WTA Finals (3 in singles and 3 in doubles), Jessica Pegula withdrew from the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals and she was replaced by Caty McNally. On the other hand, the 18-years-old Coco Gauff travelled to Glasgow immediately after her last loss in Fort Worth.
Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, who are set to represent Czech Republic and Elise Mertens, who represents Belgium are yet to play their final match at the 2022 WTA Finals and it will be very difficult for them to move to Glasgow as they may join the list of players that will withdraw from the event.
