The Qatar Open, which is a WTA 500 event held in Doha running from February 13-18, is one of the most favourite tournaments among players, and the entry list reflects that.
Previously, likes of Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin, Simona Halep, and Victoria Azarenka triumphed in Doha and the list of the players expands every year. In 2023, the defending champion is world no. 1 Iga Swiatek, who started her previous season with a triumph in Doha.
But the young Pole will face a huge challenge when defending the title. The entry list is full of Top 20 players, as almost everyone who could, signed up for the event. Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia and Coco Gauff are all capable of winning such an event.
Moreover, there is also a former champion on the entry list and a few more can appear in the qualifying. Petra Kvitova is a two-time champion in Doha, and she will try to add another title in 2023.
On the other hand, Victoria Azarenka, Karolina Pliskova and Elise Mertens, who all also lifted a trophy in Qatar, will have to fight through a qualifying draw.
The main draw entry list features also likes of Daria Kasatkina, Belinda Bencic, Paula Badosa, and Jelena Ostapenko, who all proved their qualities in the past.
