The 2023 Qatar Open, which is a WTA 500 event held in Doha, running from February 13th to 18th, is one of the most favorite tournaments among players, and the entry list reflects that.
Previously, the likes of Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin, Simona Halep, and Victoria Azarenka triumphed in Doha, and the list of players who won the trophy in Doha expands every year.
In 2023, the World No. 1 player, Iga Swiatek, is also the defending champion at the tournament in Doha. She won the event in 2022, and this year, she will want to add another Qatar Open trophy to her collection.
But the young Pole will face a huge challenge when defending the title. The entry list is full of Top 20 players, as almost everyone who could, signed up for the event.
Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia, and Coco Gauff are all capable of winning the Qatar Open, but they will need to prove it on the tennis court, as there will be no easy matches in Doha.
Moreover, there is another former champion on the entry list, and a few more can appear in the qualifying. Petra Kvitova is a two-time champion in Doha, and she will try to add another title in 2023.
On the other hand, Karolina Pliskova and Elise Mertens, who all also lifted a trophy in Qatar, will have to fight through a qualifying draw, showing the incredible quality of the players' field in Doha.
Victoria Azarenka was also set to play in the qualifying, but her situation changed when she received a wildcard from the tournament organizers to enter the main draw directly.
The main draw entry list also features the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Belinda Bencic, Paula Badosa, and Jelena Ostapenko, who all proved their qualities in the past.
