Dominic Thiem has announced that he is ending his partnership management company Kosmos, and will instead be managed by his brother, Moritz Thiem.
The deal lasted a little under two years, and ultimately ended as a very unsuccessful one. The former World No. 3 signed with the management company in June 2021, just five days before severely injuring his right wrist - an injury that would leave him out of the game for the majority of that year and still recovering his full form and fitness.
It also came just ten months after Thiem had already won his fist Grand Slam title at the US Open, a triumph that the Austrian has since admitted destroyed his hunger and motivation.
It is this motivation that Thiem looks determined to get back, and he has deemed that Kosmos will not play any part in that crucial objective.
My management will not make me a better player, nor will it kindle the fire in me. It doesn’t matter who manages me. I signed and tore my wrist five days later. That didn’t go well, neither for me nor for them. What comes from outside is not at the moment important. It’s important for me that I fully light the fire.
While the wrist injury is now behind him, the 2020 US Open champion is still searching for his best form, while work is likely still needed on his match fitness.
He is expected to participate in the mini clay swing in South America this month - including tournaments in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aries and Santiago, before heading North to the US for the sunshine double (Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami).
If Thiem can get some much-needed match practice under his belt and regain some of the confidence he had at his prime a few years back, then his favoured clay court stretch might come around just in time for him to show the tennis world he is back, and that he means business.
