The 2023 Italian Open, which is a second consecutive WTA 1000 event in Europe, will take place in Rome from May 10 to May 21.
The Italian Open will take place in a new format this year with 96 players, and it will last two weeks, just like the Madrid Open. The players will aim to demonstrate that they are ready for the clay-court major since it will be the penultimate WTA 1000 competition before the Roland Garros.
Last year, Iga Swiatek defeated Ons Jabeur, and both players will compete and defend a big chunk of their points also in 2023. The two semifinalists, Aryna Sabalenka and Daria Kasatkina will both also compete in Rome as they will try to take it another step further this year.
But as every year, the competition will be very fierce in Rome. They will be joined by the likes of Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, and Maria Sakkari.
The clay courts in Rome certainly favour some of the players that won the clay-court major before, such as Barbora Krejcikova and Jelena Ostapenko, but Petra Kvitova and Belinda Bencic will be also players to keep an eye on.
