Bianca Andreescu nearly won the Bad Homburg Open last year but she's out early this year after losing to Rebeka Masarova.
The Canadian player once again managed to play a really solid match in the first round of an event only to bomb out completely in the next one. It's getting really frustrating for the player and her frustration is starting to show in matches as well.
After surviving a rather tricky first-round matchup, Andreescu faced a player whom she technically should have beaten. Masarova is a good player, capable of playing some great tennis but Andreescu is a really strong player with some impressive showings earlier this year.
Unfortunately, her consistency remained in Miami but the injury sustained there is probably playing a factor as well. Just as she started to play better she sustained yet another injury cutting short any momentum she built up.
The match was not very good from the Canadian. Andreescu was a bit all over the place in the opening set though she didn't serve that poorly. She was simply outplayed by Masarova who had some solid runs in the past but is yet to win a big WTA title.
The Spaniard served really well losing only one point behind her first serve in the opening set. Her game generally fits very well on grass and she showed that in this match.
The Canadian didn't play any better in the second set, in fact, it was worse. She won only one point on return and that wasn't enough in this match. On her serve, it was even worse from Andreescu. Only four points won on the second serve certainly didn't help her.
Before she even realized it, the match was over, losing 3-6, 2-6, and shifting focus to the 2023 Wimbledon. The Canadian can do so much better but hopefully, this run doesn't discourage her as poor results have in the past.
