Elena Rybakina has revealed some of her personal bucket list aspirations away from the tennis court, including the possibility of a skydive.
Rybakina is a competitive and serious player on the court and her determination to succeed at the top of the women's game has yielded recent success. The 24-year-old won the 2022 Wimbledon final for her first career Grand Slam last year and she made the Australian Open final in 2023, but eventually lost to Aryna Sabalenka.
However, the Kazakhstani player has recently revealed more about her more leisurely side in an interview with the Daily Mail. During the interview, Rybakina opened up about some of her off-court hobbies, which are largely based on thrill-seeking adventures.
‘I really like rollercoasters as well, and I have ridden quite a lot of them in America. After a tournament it’s sort of a treat. One of the things I want to do is jump out of an aeroplane, but my coaches are telling me this is not the right time. I think they are worried about the landing.’
Also, Rybakina explained more about her back story and how she got involved in tennis. The 24-year-old Wimbledon champion explained that her dad's involvement in tennis is what drew her to the sport over other options, like gymnastics.
However, the world number three also said she was unaware that she would make it to the WTA until she was in her late teens.
"My dad liked tennis, and had played a bit when he was in his early 20s. He thought it would be fun but when we went my sister said straight away that she didn’t like it. I liked it from the start, even though it was tough going there without my sister. I played a lot but I probably didn’t think I was going to go professional until 17."
