Quentin Halys was born on October 26, 1996, in Bondy, France, to Frederic and Muriel Halys. His father is an IT engineer, while his mother is a nurse. He began playing tennis at the age of five by hitting with his family at their local club. His idols growing up were Roger Federer, Marat Safin, and Gael Monfils.
The Frenchman spent the early stages of his career competing on the ITF Futures Circuit. He won five titles at that level by the end of 2015. All of these came on his favorite hard courts.
Halys claimed two victories in Grand Slam main draws in 2016. The first was against Ivan Dodig at the Australian Open, while the other was at the French Open against Hyeon Chung. However, Halys then did not win another Grand Slam main draw match for over six years. The vast majority of those six years were spent competing on the ATP Challenger Tour.
His first two titles at Challenger level came in 2018. These were at Quimper, France, and Nanchang, China. Unfortunately, that was followed by a streak of five consecutive final losses. That run finally ended in February 2022 in Pau, France. Halys beat Vasek Pospisil 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to win the title on home soil.
The following month, Halys again won a Challenger title in France from a set down by triumphing 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 against Ricardas Berankis. Further titles were obtained in Ismaning, Germany, and Blois, France.
Halys’ first Grand Slam main draw victory in over six years came at Wimbledon in 2022 against Benoit Paire. He beat his older compatriot 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, and was emotional after finally triumphing at a Grand Slam once again.
However, Halys had an even better run at SW19 the following year. He started by beating the 27th seed Daniel Evans at the British player's home Grand Slam in the opening round. That was followed by a straight-sets triumph against Aleksandar Vukic, before he exited in the third round to Jannik Sinner.
