The draw for the 2025 Montpellier Open, which is the first ATP 250 event after the Australian Open, has been released.

While those who made it far in the second week of the opening Grand Slam of the season will likely want to use some time after the Australian Open to rest, others who lost much earlier want to get back to winning, and that's why they signed up for the Montpellier Open.

The Montpellier Open, also called the Open Occitanie for sponsorship reasons, is the first tournament held after the "Happy Slam." In 2025, it will start on January 27th, and the final match will be played on February 2nd.

In 2024, Alexander Bublik won the trophy in Montpellier. This year, the Kazakhstani player returns as the fourth seed, which still guarantees him a first-round bye, as the first four seeded players don't have to play their first-round match.

Bublik, however, won't have an easy second round. He will either play against home wild card Gregoire Barrere or he will take on Dominik Koepfer.

Two wild cards went to home players, as the other one was given to Quentin Halys, who will start against Jesper de Jong in the first round. The winner of this match will play against the third-seeded Flavio Cobolli.

But the other two wild cards were given to players who would draw big crowds despite not being French. Andrey Rublev didn't enjoy the best Australian Open. He was stunned already in the first round by an inspired Joao Fonseca.

Although he didn't initially plan to compete in Montpellier, the Russian player changed his plans and accepted a wild card from the tournament organizers. He will be the first seed.

But despite having a first-round bye, Rublev's draw is very challenging. His second-round opponent could be Christopher Eubanks, who is a Wimbledon quarter-finalist, or a qualifier, who the American will play in the opening round.

The last wild card was given to the legend of the sport and the oldest man in the ATP Rankings. Stan Wawrinka will return to the tennis courts again, but his draw will be very challenging as well.

Wawrinka will start against home player Arthur Cazaux in the first round, and should he overcome the Frenchman, the three-time major winner will play against the second-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round of the tournament.

There will also be some exciting first-round matches for the French fans. For example, Richard Gasquet, who will retire from the sport this year, will play against compatriot Adrian Mannarino.

Another exciting all-French matchup will see the seventh-seeded Arthur Rinderknech take on Harold Mayot. But there will also be an all-Dutch first-round match in Montpellier. Davis Cup teammates Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp will meet in the first round.
