Jannik Sinner Records Multiple Insane Achievements With Davis Cup Win

| by Jordan Reynolds

Jannik Sinner established himself as the best ATP player in the world during an incredible 2024 season, achieving some outstanding statistical feats throughout the year.

Expectations for Sinner this season rose after an impressive end to 2023. He won his maiden Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open, finished as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals, and became a Davis Cup champion with Italy.

Sinner started a memorable 2024 at the Australian Open. He reached a maiden Grand Slam final after dominating the 10-time champion in Melbourne Djokovic in the semifinal and then won the title after recovering from two sets down against Daniil Medvedev.

The Italian secured further titles at the Rotterdam Open and the Miami Open. His only title during the clay and grass court swings was at the Halle Open, but he stayed consistent by making the quarterfinals and semifinals.

Those results saw him become the world No. 1 for the first time after the French Open, overtaking Djokovic. The Serbian withdrew from Roland Garros before the quarterfinal due to a knee injury.

Sinner flourished on hard courts once again after Wimbledon. The 23-year-old won the Cincinnati Open before triumphing at the US Open for the first time, beating Taylor Fritz in the final.

Many players struggle to sustain a high level after the year's final Grand Slam, but that did not happen to Sinner. After winning the Shanghai Masters, he received the largest paycheck in tennis history, $6,000,000, for triumphing at the Six Kings Slam.

Sinner ended his amazing season by becoming the ATP Finals champion on home soil in Turin and playing a pivotal role in Team Italy retaining the Davis Cup. He sealed that feat by beating Tallon Griekspoor in Malaga.

The Italian ends 2024 with two Grand Slams, three Masters 1000 titles, the ATP Finals, two ATP 500 titles, and having helped Italy win the Davis Cup again. He recorded 73 wins and just six losses.

Other statistics prove how dominant Sinner was in 2024. He became just the third player this century to go the entire season without losing a match in straight sets. Roger Federer in 2005 and Serena Williams in 2013 were the others.

Sinner was also the second male to achieve that since tennis became a professional sport in 1968, showing how rare it is for any ATP star to be competitive in every match they play.

The year-end world No. 1 is the first player since 1993 to win the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup in the same season. Finding the energy for the Davis Cup Finals after the ATP Finals must have been challenging, but Sinner managed to do it.

Sinner is also the first player in tennis history to win and secure two Grand Slams, the Davis Cup and the ATP Finals, in the same season, showing how challenging it is to be consistent across multiple tournaments.

2024 will always be memorable for Sinner, but he insists that continuing to improve means more to him than the titles. The prospect of him getting even better in 2025 is worrying for his rivals.
