Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev had a pretty heated clash at the Monte-Carlo Masters, after which the German called the Russian unfair.
It was a glorious night in Monte Carlo earlier this year when two rivals clashed on the court of the ATP 1000 event. It was a match that Medvedev won, and it left Zverev quite upset about it.
He lashed out after the match calling Medvedev one of the most unfair players on Tour. Those were some pretty big words from the German, who wasn't happy with some of the Russian's antics during the match.
Medvedev didn't really respond until a day later during a match against Holger Rune, where he told Rune that he plays unfairly, poking fun at Zverev.
He then said that he was ready to comfort Zverev over those claims, and that seemingly was that. The players are still not on great terms, and Zverev talked about that in a recent interview with Sky Sports Germany, admitting that he regrets the way he conducted that interview.
That kind of hurts me a little bit, it doesn't mean I'm sorry for that. I'm a bit regretful about how I gave the interview. I really believe that simply winning the match, not by playing tennis, and that's something I hate.
I'm someone, you can say a lot of things about me, but I never take a medical time out, I never go to the toilet unnecessarily. I don't make any moves, I don't do anything like that because I just don't like it. I hate it when something like that is done, and I find it incredibly unsportsmanlike.
Zverev further explained that he should have confronted Medvedev personally as opposed to just going to the media and doing it publicly.
At the end of the day. I should have come to him myself and told him hey, what the hell is this and not given an interview about it, I think, but I was disappointed, I was angry at that moment because I felt like I was in that moment moment that one breakthrough was needed and something could have happened.
