Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula once again played doubles together throughout the 2023 WTA season, and they had a pretty good season earning a nomination for the WTA Doubles Team of the Year award.
This pairing is not one that we'll be seeing forever, which is something that both alluded to this year, but for much of this year, they still played together. We'll see if that remains for next year, but this year was a pretty strong season for the Americans, who were once again one of the best doubles teams in the world.
They played together at the WTA Finals recently, though they failed to secure a spot in the semi-final of the event. That concluded their year, and we don't know whether they'll continue next year, though reports would say they will. We'll have to wait until the Australian Open to see.
However, this year was pretty great as they became number one together in doubles in September of this year. They also won titles in Doha and Miami, making the finals in Madrid and Rome.
The overall record was 35-12, which is pretty great, and that was enough to earn them a nomination for one of the best teams on Tour.
We'll see if they end up winning it because the competition is quite fierce with many great pairings. The nominees include Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens, Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, and also Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva, who all had great seasons.
One thing that could have boosted the chances for this was if they played at the Billie Jean King Cup, where Americans would have had great chances with them in the team. Unfortunately, due to the way the calendar works, both declined to play at the event.
