The WTA Player of the Year Award is the biggest award players can get from the WTA, and the competition this year has been fierce.

It's been a very good WTA season with a lot of excitement. Iga Swiatek won this award last year after dominating the Tour, but the picture is not as clear this year. Swiatek was still quite dominant, but plenty of other players stepped up and had successful seasons.

Aryna Sabalenka won her maiden Grand Slam earlier this year. Coco Gauff did the same at the US Open as Elena Rybakina continued to become better with every year. Those are some of the names that are leading the list of nominees this year. In total, six players were nominated for the award, so let's look at some of their highlights in the previous year.

Iga Swiatek

The reigning world number one finished the year off with a trophy at the WTA Finals and secured yet another year-end No. 1 rank. She also finished with a 68-11 record winning six trophies in total this year, the most out of any player.

Aryna Sabalenka

Sabalenka finished with a 55-14 record this year, including one Grand Slam trophy and two more titles. She played in four more finals, including the US Open final, but was beaten by Coco Gauff. She finishes as the world number two.

Coco Gauff

After a lot of doubt, Gauff caught fire on native soil winning a couple of trophies, including the US Open, which is by far her biggest trophy ever. She stabilized as a very good player and found herself topping the list of the best players on the Tour.

Jessica Pegula, Marketa Vondrousova, Elena Rybakina

These three players complete the list of nominees, and they all had amazing years. Jessica Pegula was once again a beacon of consistency, playing well the entire year. Marketa Vondrousova sensationally won Wimbledon, while Elena Rybakina continued to improve by winning a couple of big trophies.
