Daniil Medvedev poked fun at rival Alexander Zverev after his most recent match against Holger Rune at the Monte-Carlo Masters, which the Danish youngster won.
Medvedev took on Rune in the Monte-Carlo Masters quarter-final, which the Danish player ended up winning thanks to some amazing play. It wasn’t a complicated match for Rune, who managed to keep it in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-4, far less complicated than the match Medvedev played against Zverev.
That match was properly chaotic as Medvedev stunned Zverev with a tremendous comeback, even though Zverev served for the match in the second set at 5-4. Right before that game, Medvedev dismantled a net post, confusing Zverev and making him laugh, which possibly disturbed the German player's focus.
That wasn’t the only tactic Medvedev employed in the match trying to throw Zverev off his rhythm. It worked as Zverev was beside himself after the match, accusing Medvedev of being the most unfair player in the world.
As expected, Medvedev wasn’t fazed by those comments in any way and even used them against Zverev, poking fun at what he said. It was while shaking Rune's hand, telling the Danish player that he played "unfair."
"You played so good! You played unfair."
It was a clear jab at Zverev, essentially implying that the German was a sore loser because when he lost, he simply couldn’t remain silent or congratulate his opponent but rather had to claim that Medvedev won because he played unfairly or something to that extent.
It is just another chapter in the rivalry between Medvedev and Zverev, which has historically been rather tense. There have been some pretty strange exchanges between the two, as they don’t really see eye to eye.
It was evident in the match, and these comments made by both clearly imply that there is no love lost between them.
