Novak Djokovic almost hit a ball boy with his racquet during his 2022 Serbia Open final match against Andrey Rublev, which the Russian won.
During the final between Djokovic and Rublev, unwanted tennis scenes happened in Belgrade. The Serbian has been quite emotional all week long, and for a very good reason, as it has been a very tough season so far for him.
During one rally, Djokovic's racket flew dangerously out of his hands towards the net, almost hitting a ball boy waiting to pick up the balls near the net.
The primary angle of the camera doesn't show whether the 34-year-old player threw the racquet or it flew out of his hand, but he did not get a code violation for his actions.
However, another angle showed that the racket slipped from his hand, almost hitting the ball boy. The Serbian is known for the occasional emotional outburst on the court, and racket throws are not uncommon for him.
Some of the more high-profile incidents he was involved in include the US Open default when he hit a line judge with a ball and a famous racket throw during the Olympics last year.
He threw it into the stands and never collected it during his match against Alexander Zverev. The video of his incident at the ATP 250 event in Belgrade also doesn't indicate Djokovic apologizing to the kid, even though he said something when the ball boy returned the racket.
Djokovic did not offer a comment after the match either, but it seemed like a very unlucky moment, on top of the fact that Djokovic was bested by a very good Rublev in the final match. Now, the Serbian will again focus on his tennis to peak at the 2022 Roland Garros.
Another angle shows, that racquet slipped out of Djokovic's hand:
