Andy Murray steamrolled through his round one match at Wimbledon and he did with Roger Federer watching from the Royal Box.
Federer was honoured at Wimbledon on Tuesday before the first match on the Centre Court and he stayed behind watching some tennis. He was there for the Murray - Peniston match, a really strong performance from Andy which got him into the second round of the event.
During his post-match interview, Murray was asked about Federer being there and he thanked him for his support. He also joked with him that the last time he watched him play on the Centre Court was a decade ago at the Olympics when he was cheering for Stan Wawrinka.
Last time I was on this court and he was watching was during the Olympics. He sat in Stan Wawrinka's box supporting against me so it's nice to see a couple of claps today after some good shots. No, it's amazing, hope you're doing well.
Murray and Federer had some epic battles over the years. They played each other 25 times on the ATP Tour with the Swiss ace winning 14 times. Two of those happened at Wimbledon and Federer won both times. The most recent one was back in 2015 and that was one of the Wimbledon ones. Murray was also asked whether he got a chance to talk to him after the match.
I saw him briefly when I came off the court. Yeah, I mean, obviously like during the Laver Cup last year, he was obviously sitting on the side watching the match there. I only remember one other time having him there, like I said, on the court when I played Stan Wawrinka in the Olympics.
Yeah, obviously brilliant to have him around the event. I'm pretty sure he will be around the sport a lot. I know he loves tennis. And, yeah, great to have him back here.
