Jannik Sinner's run to the 2024 Australian Open title may be his biggest career achievement, but it was not the most prize money he has made at a single event.
The Italian will undoubtedly still be basking in glory, having won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. He achieved this with a stunning five-set victory in the final against Daniil Medvedev.
This followed Sinner's terrific semifinal success against Novak Djokovic. It was his third win in four matches against the Serbian, and it is clear Djokovic currently has a problem with Sinner's game.
The praise for the 22-year-old throughout the tennis world has also been vast since his heroics in Melbourne. An example was a former world No. 1 saying Sinner, Alcaraz, and Djokovic are the new Big 3.
But surprisingly, the best moment of Sinner's career is not the most money he has made at a tournament. In fact, the event where the Italian did have his biggest payday was not one where he lifted the title.
Per the ATP conversion rate, Sinner received $2,105,775 for his efforts at the Australian Open. Claiming over 2 million US dollars is a huge reward for what the world No. 4 achieved, but the ATP Finals was even more generous.
Sinner finished as the runner-up at the season-ending event on the ATP Tour last year, losing on this occasion to Djokovic in straight sets. Yet, the Italian was still rewarded with $2,600,500 for his impressive tennis at the ATP Finals.
However, it is very likely that his Australian Open win will still lead to a more lucrative financial situation overall for Sinner. This is due to the new sponsorship deals and other financial incentives he is certainly being offered due to his increased visibility worldwide.
Regardless of the monetary rewards, the sense of achievement from being a Grand Slam champion is something that will always remain with Sinner.
