Alexander Zverev was able to get in two matches at the Diriyah Tennis Cup with one win and one loss which was okay for him.
To advance and face Medvedev, the German overcame Dominic Thiem in the opening round. That match was not as straightforward since Medvedev served him a bagel, and the Russian went on to win the second set. Overall it showed Zverev that he's doing well considering the circumstances but still has a long way to go.
“I am happy to have played two matches. I was happy to be able to compete at this level and play with Danil," said Zverev who highlighted the first set as not good enough.
"Of course, the first set
wasn’t great, but that was to be expected, but I was happy with the
level and also how I was moving in the second set. It shows that I am on
the right path. I know there is still a long way to go. My foot is
healthy and I and I am fit to compete”, added Zverev.
Zverev also got in a doubles match which he lost but it was fun for him to get some more playing time:
"It’s always fun to be sharing the court. It’s different being on a singles court. We have played a lot of singles matches, so it’s nice to play a doubles match for a change."
