Alexander Zverev is facing abuse charges, but it's not bothering him too much as he keeps performing well at the 2023 Hamburg Open.

The news of his former partner alleging bodily harm was first reported by local media and it spread like wildfire around the world. Zverev has since broken his silence on the matter, denying the allegations and declaring that he won't respond to any more questions about it.

It impacted his play very little so far, as he won a couple of matches last week as well as this week. The Bastad run was cut short by Andrey Rublev but he's looking very strong in his hometown of Hamburg with another convincing win.

A comfortable win against Alex Molcan in round one was followed up with another strong performance against compatriot Maximilian Marterer. It was a straight-sets victory for Zverev, who seemed largely unbothered by his opponent.

He was pretty dominant on his serve losing only 4 points all match behind his first serve. The second serve wasn't that impressive but it didn't need to be as his first serve allowed him to win all the crucial rallies. He wasn't broken until fairly late in the second set and by then most of the damage was already done.

Marterer struggled greatly behind both serves as he didn't find great solutions behind his first or second serve. Zverev opened the first serve with an early break, and that proved more than enough though he added one break in the final game of the match for good measure.

The second set opened with two break points for Marterer but he didn't use either. From there Zverev stabilized enough to easily cruise towards the finish line breaking his opponent once which wouldn't be enough to be avoided disaster by keeping the match in two sets.

The final score was 6-3 7-5 for Zverev who moves on to face Luca van Assche who stunned Alejandro Davidovich Fokina earlier today.
