Naomi Osaka is set to return to tennis in Paris at the Roland Garros after missing time due to a leg injury sustained in Madrid.
It was a short layoff for Osaka since Madrid as she was only out for a week during the Italian Open in Rome. The leg injury hampered her in her defeat to Sara Sorribes Tormo at the 2022 Madrid Open.
After taking some time off, Osaka is back to the tennis courts, and she used it to arrive early in Paris to better prepare for the Roland Garros, which starts on May 22nd, 2022.
She looked excited and happy to be back, which is good to see, considering how badly this Grand Slam went for her last year. Last year, Osaka created controversy by refusing to speak to reporters due to her mental health.
The event threatened her with expulsion and a fine, prompting her to withdraw from the tournament in round 2 after a successful start. This time around, the Japanese player will once again want to prove that she's one of the best players in the world, as she has struggled to prove it with her tennis in the past few years.
Her tennis is certainly capable of proving it, but too many external factors seem to be influencing what happens on the court.
After finishing the 2019 season with 40 wins and 11 losses, Osaka has not played more than 22 matches in a season since then, but only recently, she proved that she still has the level to beat the best.
At the 2022 Miami Open, she made it to the final of the WTA 1000 tournament before losing to Iga Swiatek 4-6, 0-6. After that, the tournament in Madrid followed, with Osaka now scheduled to play at one of the two Grand Slams where she has never won the major trophy - the French Open.
