Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz played a great match against each other with the younger Spaniard ending up as the winner.

Alcaraz then went on to beat Novak Djokovic in the semifinal becoming the first person to do it in a long time. Then he followed that up by smashing Zverev in the final to win his 2nd ATP 1000 trophy and first Madrid trophy. The youngster has never been shy about his admiration of Nadal and just how much he idolized him growing up.

Nadal knows this and he always makes sure to encourage Alcaraz whenever he can. Just recently he posted a congratulatory message on Instagram about his triumph in Barcelona. Now, he did it again with Madrid posting a picture of Alcaraz with the trophy. He captioned the photo with:

"Congratulations Carlos. What a great tournament. Big win"

Many saw their Madrid clash as somewhat of a 'passing the torch' moment and while it might be, Nadal is not yet done. Roland Garros will be interesting to observe as Alcaraz confidently admitted that he was ready for his first grand slam. Paris can't come soon enough.
