Jannik Sinner returned to the tennis courts at the 2025
Italian Open in Rome, and his fashion choices might have surprised some.
Sinner made a long-awaited
return to tennis in front of his home fans in Rome. His first opponent wasn't an easy one, as the World No. 1 had to take on clay specialist Mariano Navone.
Despite facing a challenging opponent, the three-time Grand Slam champion handled the match perfectly, winning in two sets and securing a third-round spot at the
ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome.
Sinner and his match were in the spotlight already before the tournament started. Tens of thousands of tennis fans were at Foro Italico to see the Italian player, who attracted the attention of all the Italian tennis fans.
On the court, however, he didn't shine bright like some of the tennis players. In recent years, it has become very popular to wear bright colors, something that Sinner's rival, Carlos Alcaraz, has been doing. However, Sinner appeared in an all-black outfit, which might have surprised some.
After the match, Sinner spoke about his fashion choices, explaining that he likes to be dressed in one color, and that he also believes black suits him well.
"Everyone is different. In Rome here, if we watch the last times when I played, I always played in whole black. It's something that I always wanted to keep in a way. It can change in the future, yes. But I love having all in the same color. I believe it suits me quite well."
"I don't like the yellow and orange and these very bright colors. I like more the darker colors. Again, everyone is different. Fashion off the court is different. I still have to learn many things about the fashion off court (smiling). I am just a very normal 23-year-old. Nothing crazy."
Jannik Sinner Avoids Sounding 'Arrogant' After Rome Win
Speaking after his win, Sinner was also asked about his mindset. Although he returned to the tennis courts with an impressive win, it doesn't immediately mean that his confidence recovered to where it was before his suspension.
The Italian player admitted that he had doubts prior to his match, and even though he won it, it didn't erase his doubts. He has those even ahead of his meeting against lucky loser Jesper de Jong.
"Of course. It's normal to have doubts. It would be strange not to don't have any doubts. Would sound very arrogant, no? I have doubts. I had doubts before going onto the court today. I have doubts now about what's going to happen in the next match."
"But we have to live with doubts because it means that you really care, that you want to improve, that you want to show yourself, that you want to do something special. Yeah, so I believe every one of us has daily doubts, so yeah."
