The season's final 1000-level clay court tournament will be held from May 6th until May 18th at the 2025
Italian Open, and the
prize money and ranking points awarded each round have been revealed.
Alexander Zverev is the defending men's singles champion, beating Nicolas Jarry in last year's final. Although the German has endured many struggles in 2025, he was the champion on home turf at last month's 2025 Munich Open.
Iga Swiatek defeated
Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-3 in the 2024 women's final. It was an anticlimax compared to the incredible Madrid Open final the pair played two weeks before, which the Pole won in a deciding tiebreak after saving three championship points.
Sabalenka enters this year's Italian Open with confidence after winning a third Madrid Open title. She overcame Coco Gauff in the final and extended her huge lead at the top of the
WTA rankings.
Although there are many intriguing storylines to follow at the 2025 Italian Open, undoubtedly the biggest is
Jannik Sinner's return to tennis after the completion of the three-month suspension he accepted from the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Sinner and the other players in the men's and women's draws will compete for significant prize money and ranking points in Rome. However, the points are slightly different for most rounds, and the men get slightly better financial benefits.
The 2025 Italian Open
ATP singles champion will receive €985,030. By contrast, the prize money for the women's winner at the prestigious tournament is €877,390. The ranking point reward is 1,000 for both.
Whichever players replicate Sabalenka and Jarry's runner-up finish last year are also guaranteed to be impressively rewarded. €523,870 is on offer for the losing finalist on the men's side and €456,735 for the WTA player. Players from both tours will get 650 ranking points.
Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins, Alejandro Tabilo, and Tommy Paul were the beaten 2024 semifinalists. The 2025 Italian Open men's semifinalists will be given €291,040 and 400 ranking points for reaching that stage, with the prize being €240,380 and 390 points for the women.
The prize money remains at six figures for the players who fall in the quarterfinals. Men will get €165,670 and 200 points, while it is €124,700 and 215 points for the women, which could be enough to alter the rankings at the end of the tournament.
Making it through the first three rounds will also be enough for players to win a healthy sum. €90,445 and 100 ranking points are the guaranteed sums for the ATP players. The WTA stars who reach that stage are set to collect €66,110 and 120 points.
ATP Players will receive 50 ranking points and €52,925 for reaching the third round. WTA stars get €38,313 and 65 points. Since they received byes in the opening round, the top 32 seeds are guaranteed either 30 points(men) or 35 points(women) and €30,895(men) or €21,215(women) for making it to the second round.
Male players who lose in the opening round in Rome will have €20,820 added to their bank accounts and 10 points to their total in the rankings. The prize money for women is €13,150, and the total points are also 10.
Although it promises to be a fantastic tournament,
Novak Djokovic's withdrawal was a blow. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is always among the most significant attractions, and his absence will disappoint many ticket holders.
