Reports have indicated that Jannik Sinner has a new girlfriend, which would confirm the end of his relationship with WTA star Anna Kalinskaya.
Sinner and Kalinskaya were dating in 2024. She was pictured in his box at the 2024 US Open and celebrated on-court with the 23-year-old when he secured a maiden title at the prestigious tournament in New York.
However, rumors have circulated for months about the pair breaking up. Neither of the players wanted to address the situation publicly, creating further speculation that they are no longer romantically involved.
That now appears certain after pictures circulated of Sinner with Lara Leito, a Russian model. She used to date Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody, but they have been split for a significant period of time.
According to Chi Magazine, Sinner and Leito met during the ATP world No. 1's suspension from February 9th until May 4th, which was imposed by the World Anti-Doping Agency(WADA) after Sinner's team reached a case settlement.
Sinner was accidentally contaminated with the prohibited substance clostebol at the 2024 Indian Wells Open. WADA initially appealed the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport until the parties eventually settled the case.
Chi Magazine reports that Leito was present at Sinner's training sessions at the Monte-Carlo Masters. The three-time Grand Slam champion returned to training with professional players at clubs on April 13th.
No other details were given. While only Sinner, Leito, or someone linked to them is needed to confirm they are dating, the pictures of them together suggest that the reports are likely to be true.
Having a new partner may have helped Sinner through the undoubtedly challenging period away from professional tennis. The two-time Australian Open winner has repeatedly said he feels innocent and admitted he only accepted the three-month ban in case CAS implemented a longer ban after advice from his lawyer.
It will be interesting to observe whether Leito appears in Sinner's box at the 2025 Italian Open. The tournament on home soil will be his first since the ban and first since he won a second Australian Open title in January.
Sinner's matches are guaranteed to be analyzed the most closely in Rome. His doping case was one of the most high-profile and controversial stories in tennis, with various opinions on the subject.
One of Sinner's most recent defenders was Rafael Nadal. The 22-time Grand Slam champion fully believes that Sinner did not mean to do anything wrong and feels he should not be viewed negatively after the saga.
By contrast, Nick Kyrgios has repeatedly slammed Sinner and the handling of the case. He called the case settlement with WADA a sad day for tennis, and argues that how Sinner was treated proves there is no fairness in tennis.
Max Purcell's 18-month ban for receiving intravenous infusions of over 500ml was a story that some argue shows Sinner got favorable treatment, although there were details in that case which others think meant Purcell deserved a longer ban than the world No. 1.
