The rivalry between John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg will continue at the 2023 Laver Cup in Vancouver.

McEnroe and Borg were among the biggest rivals in the history of the ATP Tour. They met "only" 14 times, but they played some of the biggest matches in the history of the sport. Each won seven times in those 14 meetings.

Borg bested McEnroe in the 1980 Wimbledon Championships final, with the American player returning the favor at the US Open the same year.

The following year, they met in the Wimbledon and US Open finals again, with McEnroe winning both of those matches. Their rivalry was often called the "Fire and Ice" rivalry due to their personalities.

Although fans might have thought that it ended in 1981 with their last meeting, their rivalry was actually renewed at the Laver Cup in 2017.

Both serve as captains for their respective teams and in 2023, their rivalry at the Laver Cup will continue after McEnroe led Team World to their first-ever Laver Cup win in 2022.

In 2023, he will want to repeat that feat with his team. The former American player is obviously excited about the upcoming edition of the Laver Cup, as he now knows his team is capable of winning it.

Previously, Team World always came close to lifting the Laver Cup, but in 2022, they finally got across the line, and McEnroe wants to follow up on that victory.

"We’d come agonizingly close to victory over the years but could never quite get across the finish line. But we kept battling, we had great team spirit and it was just awesome when we won the Laver Cup last year in London."

Borg, on the other hand, is happy to be part of the project, enjoying the ride. He now has his eyes set on the Laver Cup in Vancouver, as his team wants revenge for the loss.

"It’s been a privilege to have been involved in the Laver Cup from the very start. I’ve been lucky to have had such incredible champions play for Team Europe over the years and we’ve enjoyed a lot of success, but we’ll have a battle on our hands in Vancouver that’s for sure."
